Our Location & Surrounding Area

typical street scene
You will find the pace of life slower in this corner of rural France, there is time to become acquainted with the landscape and appreciate the centuries old architecture of the towns and villages. We are surrounded by gently undulating hills swathed in sunflowers and plum trees. Aquitaine has a turbulent history with years of conflict between the French and English. These conflicts created the need for the many fortified towns, built around the 12th century which now dot the horizon.

Moirax itself is very quiet; a small hamlet in the commune of Laperche, a 5km stroll takes you to the pretty little village of St Bartelemy D'Agenais where you will find two local shops. A minimarket and tabac/newsagent with Dutch and English papers. Tombebouef the next village is 15 minutes by bicycle and offers a golfcourse, pharmacy, butchers and a welcoming boulangerie, it's the best one for morning croissant and bread.

Miramont de Guyenne is the local market town with a wide range of shops, facilities and only 9km away. Market day is Monday selling everything from donkeys, olives, live chickens to local cheeses and Johnny Halliday Cds!

Monflanquin is a bastide town, seen by many as the jewel in the crown of the Lot et Garonne. Good restaurants and craft shops line the medieval square.

Villeneuve-sur-Lot, is a pleasant market town, which lies in the midst of a bustling market garden and fruit growing area in the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne. The countryside beyond the valley is rich farmland with gentle wooded hills, orchards of plum and apple, fields of sunflowers and strawberries.

Overlooking Villeneuve is Pujols, my favourite bastide perched on top a rocky outcrop its 13th century fortress now bristling with plants rather than archers and pikestaffs.

Nearby to the west is Duras, dominated by its impressive château. In summer, it hosts several cultural and musical events from classical to pop. Nearby are many friendly local family run vineyards where you can sample or buy.

Less lyrically perhaps, we are approx halfway on a line between Bordeaux ( 1 hour 30 drive) and Toulouse( 2 hours drive ) and due south of Bergerac (30 mins drive ) all with direct flights to/from UK.

There is a map above - alternatively, this link will take you straight to a map for Moirax. If not then just go to google maps and search for Moirax 47800. There is another Moirax close to Agen, the correct one is 9km south- east of Miramont de Guyenne.
